Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM)
Database

Q: What is the Online CDM Database?
A: The Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) database is an online database of completed, ongoing or planned disaster management projects in the Caribbean. It was developed to provide an easily accessible source of information on activities being undertaken in the region to develop Disaster Management capability, in support of the CDM Strategy.

Q: Where does the information come from and who maintains it?
A: While CDERA hosts the database on its website, the data originates from various agencies that plan, support or implement disaster management activities in the region. This includes donor agencies, national and regional disaster management organizations and specialized technical agencies. Several of these agencies have been authorized to enter their projects directly into the database, and to update them as required. For those agencies that cannot or do not wish to enter the information directly, the information is forwarded to the CDERA Coordinating Unit for entry. In either case however, the individual agencies are ultimately responsible for ensuring that data on their projects is correct and kept up-to-date.

Q: What information is recorded for each project?
A: The information that can be entered for each project includes the following:
- Implementing Agency
- Title of Project
- Outputs (OP) that the project corresponds to
- Description
- Project Cost (Projected and Actual)
- Project Duration
- List of Objectives of project
- List of Activities of project
- List of Outputs of project
- List of Outcomes
- The types of beneficiaries targeted by the project
- List of agencies collaborating in the project
- List of participating countries
- Organizations funding the projects and funding amounts
For a detailed explanation of the information maintained for each project, please refer to the User Guide

Q:There are projects in the region that I know of, but I don't see in the database - why?
A: We rely on the agencies responsible for the projects - whether for planning, funding or implementing - to provide the information on their projects. Unless they have done so, the projects will not be reflected in the database.

Q: How do I get information from the database?
A: You can get information from the database by running a Query. To run a query, you will have to specify what you wish to search for. For example, you can find all projects being implemented by a specific agency, all projects categorized under a particular Outcome(OC) or Output(OP), or all projects in which a particular country is participating. When the results are displayed on the screen, the user can "drill down" for further details. Some of the queries can also be output to a format that is more suitable for printing.
For more detailed information about querying, please refer to the User Guide

Q: When I run a query to show the total value of projects for a particular country, it includes amounts that pertain to other countries - why?
A: Many projects implemented in the region are multi-country or regional in nature. Therefore, the amount of funding stated for the project applies to all the participating countries.
